Verbal Proficiency Test Specifications


All test questions will be culled from actual language used in the field by (Company). Language World does not use any canned testing instruments. Each test is custom designed to measure ordinary Target Language usage of everyday words and phrases that will normally be used in the field, over the telephone, and in the (Company) client environment. The Verbal Proficiency Test requires approximately 20 to 35 minutes to set-up and complete.


•  The verbal test will be tape recorded for archival and grading purposes


•  There is a built-in appeals process should the test-taker disagree with the results.


•  A proctor will go to the testing location each time. We do not proctor tests remotely.


•  This test can be delivered in 40+ languages, not just Spanish.


•  This test is customized to accurately reflect the language and documentation used by (Company).

Language World Services Inc. has provided Language testing skills in a variety of languages to establish bi-lingual competencies of front line staff.


Each testing is custom tailored to the words and phrases your staff will need to speak to the Limited English Proficient customers they interface on a daily basis.

Here is a sample of a testing proposal given to a non-profit human services organization, specializing in placing foster children.


Administration of the following verbal test takes between 20 to 35 minutes:


•  Introductory Conversation (10%)
Held entirely in the Target Language, fluency, word usage, dialect and pronunciation are evaluated.


•  Reading Comprehension (10%)
A brief written passage will be provided in Target language to judge reading and pronunciation skills, a series of questions will be asked immediately following the read-aloud exercise, measuring employee's understanding of what they have just read.


•  Sight Translation (10%)

A typical English language document used in the (company) setting is given to the test-taker, they are asked to verbally translate the passage directly into the target language.


•  Verbal Interpreting Skills (70%)

Employees will be asked to interpret 7 to 10 sentences into Target Language AND, 7 to 10 English language sentences into the Target Language.
