Other Language World Services Inc. interpreters are on the professional career track awaiting acceptance to medical school, a nursing program, pharmacy school, or other affiliated advanced learning opportunities. Still others are retired from the profession, and wish to stay passionately engaged in healthcare without the rigors of full-time work. Every Language World Services interpreter signs confidentiality agreements that uphold all HIPPA regulations, and must receive training in medical terminology skills, medical practice and systems, and interpreting protocol and ethics, among other topics. In addition, some of our in-person interpreters have specialized interest and skills that enable them to provide mental health interpreting services, and cultural brokering consultation and training services for those providers who wish to receive in-depth understanding of the diverse communities they serve. |

Our goal is to make interpreting accessible, affordable, and rigorously professional. Establishing high standards with our contract interpreters is where we begin, but day-to-day management is the key to our success. Our dedicated staff takes a proactive approach to improving the skills, education, and training of over 400 interpreters speaking in over 80 distinct languages. Our quality standards are high and our people love what they do. Language World interpreters are carefully selected not only for their multi-linguistic expertise, but for their profound knowledge of the communities they serve, and their sincere commitment to assisting their respective Limited English Proficient (LEP) communities. Providing language assistance to help LEP patients in the healthcare setting requires strict adherence to a rigorous operating standard; service must be consistently excellent, carefully delivered, and continually monitored. Our interpreters must complete an orientation course, as well as participate in a minimum of 40 hours of continuing education and training for every 24 months of service. Linguistic capabilities are cross-checked with leaders from each language. Statewide certification will soon be made available through our professional association, the California Healthcare Interpreting Association. The majority of our interpreters are foreign born, permanent, legal residents and U.S. citizens who hold advanced degrees and professional accreditations from both their home countries and the United States . Many hold concurrent jobs in the healthcare and human service field, and perform work as an interpreter as a source of supplemental income beyond their regular shifts. |
