Language World Services, Inc. is Northern California’s largest interpreting and translation agency specializing in healthcare and human service assignments. Our area is home to one of the world’s most diverse regions of people, languages and cultures, and as such, we have a special responsibility to help the thousands of our limited English residents better understand the complexities of our society.

We believe that medical interpreting is a high level professional service, requiring an intellectual capacity, educational background and an emotional maturity necessary to speak difficult words and broker understanding to Limited English Proficient (LEP) patients throughout our region’s hospitals, clinics and human service offices. We do not believe that healthcare interpreting should be regarded as an afterthought, where children and untrained individuals are drafted on an ad hoc basis to serve as the vital linguistic and cultural link to the patient.

Our overarching business goal is to make interpreting accessible, affordable, independent and rigorously professional. Establishing high standards with our contract interpreters makes our agency one of the few in California that takes a proactive approach to improving the skills, education and training of over 300 interpreters speaking in over 60 distinct languages and dialects.
